Eton Academy, an independent school, seeks a Social Worker who is primarily responsible for supporting the social, psychological, behavioral, and academic development of the students. The Social Worker applies specialized knowledge of theories and interventions and coordinates with all members of the educational community to develop and implement strategies that address various student needs; conducts student assessments; and helps promote a safe, healthy, and caring educational environment for students to achieve optimal academic and social-behavioral functioning. The Social Worker manages the SDS Division and staff including the day-to-day activities of student lunch, recess, after school care, and social skills classes. The Social Worker is responsible for implementing the Eton Approach.

Reports to the Head of Academic Programs.

Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Social Work
Licensed by the State of Michigan Board of Social Work
3 years experience working with students
Strong organizational skills, time management, and data collection and reporting skills
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated leadership ability with a highly collaborative style
Knowledge of effective, research based instructional and social-emotional strategies

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Manages, leads, guides, and develops the SDS Division in line with the Eton Approach
  • Supervises SDS staff
  • Develops social skills groups and curriculum
  • Teaches social skills classes and groups
  • Develops lunch and recess program and lunch groups
  • Provides coverage during lunch, recess, after-school or morning care
  • Develops Morning care and Aftercare programs
  • Manages administration of WIAT
  • Develops, consults, and supports plans for behavior and social/emotional issues
  • Assists teachers in the implementation and progress evaluation of student behavior plans
  • Observes, assesses, and provides students with additional services/resources/strategies for emotional, behavioral, and social development
  • Conducts individual and group social, behavioral, and emotional counseling sessions
  • Provides basic crisis support
  • Collaborates with and attends Directors’ meetings as needed
  • Provides teacher training
  • Prepare written reports that are succinct, direct, and in appropriate language
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping
  • Maintains knowledge of educational social work research and recommends best practices
  • Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities
  • Contributes to providing a positive, supportive learning environment for students
  • Maintains strict confidentiality
